Hello fellow bed maker. We all know it’s time to change, our habits and our manufacturing, to make sure this wonderful world of ours can stay for ever more to be enjoyed. Those of you who know us will know that sustainability is as important to us as any thread count, breakfast in bed or long lie in. We are with you 100% when you say that you want the most comfortable, perfect temperature, bed all year round. We do too, but not at any cost to the environment.
As a B Corp in the bedmaking world, we’re part of a global community of businesses that meet high standards of social and environmental impact, so you can count on us to do the very best we can when it comes to sustainability.
All our feather duvets are, and have always been, a by-product of the food industry, but we’ve been working on improving our range so you can now choose from a more sustainable family of new duvets, pillows and protectors.
Our Bottle Bedding is made from recycled bottles that have been rescued from the sea, our Second Timer Down has been filled with perfectly clean, recycled down, and our Baa Baa Bedtime is a British-made organic 100% wool collection that is completely sustainable and doesn’t hurt any of fabulous woolly friends. Perfect for those that want to take one step further in making their bed with peace of mind.
We are also working really hard to do our very best for the environment when it comes to bed linen too. Almost all our cotton is responsibly sourced, with an increasing proportion being organic too. Nearly half of our range is now 100% linen which is widely known for its eco credentials: flax requires minimal water and pesticides to grow, it’s biodegradable and has a long lifespan, making it an eco-friendly alternative to some other fabrics.
We have also recently launched a hemp bed linen collection which is a sustainable super star. Hemp grows very quickly without needing any pesticides and only a small amount of water. It also helps regenerate the soil it’s grown in and is a carbon-sequestering champ, which means that it removes carbon dioxide from the air and locks it safely away.
Please have a browse below for further information on these win-win sustainable ranges, and as always, you can contact us at any time to chat through these products. We have all been to the School of Sustainable Bedding and love to chat about these products.
Woolly Wonders...
Think about your favourite jumper, bedtime socks, and your striped scarf that grandma made you... we all love something woolly in our wardrobes, so why not sleep under it too? It’s a magical fibre, with health and environment benefits. Try a Baa Baa Bedtime and you could improve your sleep.
All the way from the Yorkshire Pennines, we have long been looking for the perfect 100% wool duvet to add to our thriving bedding range. We are delighted to offer you, our super customers, the chance to sleep under and on top of the luxury that is our new Baa Baa Bedtime. Our Baa Baa Bedtime Finest Organic collection also comes with organic certification, and every item we make is individually serial numbered and is traceable back to sheep source in northern Scotland. Baaaarilliant.
We are proud to say that this also guarantees the agricultural welfare of both sheep, land, water supply and manufacturing process. A fully audited process which our factory has passed with flying colours every year since they gained the certification.
Possibly one of the oldest fibres on our planet, we have been borrowing fleeces from superstar sheep since 3500 B.C. Man learned to spin sheep’s wool and this led to a much warmer time for all! The production of wool is the oldest trade commodity known to man. Woolly wow! Wool is also one very durable filling. Invest in a Baa Baa Bedtime duvet and you won’t need to replace it for 10 years or more.
Wool has temperature regulating superpowers; it’s cool when you need it to be and warm when it’s not. A woolly duvet helps to keep your body at just the right temperature so you can nod off to sleep without counting a single sheep.
Wool is as clean as a sheepdog’s whistle. Dirt won’t get into the fibres of wool; it sits on top which makes it super easy to clean and get rid of any dust or dirt. Although you won’t need to clean it often, we recommend that you dry clean your Baa Baa Bedtime range. And in the meantime, you can spot clean to remove any small marks with a damp cloth.
Wool wicks well. Yes, that’s right, our Baa Baa Bedtime can happily absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture, before feeling damp. Wool can take moisture away from you, and release it into the air, which we think is very clever indeed. This also means that the Baa Baa Bedtime range will never get mouldy. Mould and mildew need a damp environment, and they won’t find that here.
We don’t use any nasty chemicals when washing or processing our wool. This helps us to make a duvet that is super hypoallergenic. There is nothing in here to cause any reaction, so this is a great choice for any allergy sufferers. You can also sleep soundly knowing that wool is naturally fire retardant… clever huh?
And as if all this woolly stuff was not enough to turn your attention to our Baa Baa Bedtime, one of the most exciting things about this bedding is its environmental credentials (which we care about a lot). Wool is renewable, sustainable, and biodegradable. Each sheep can be shorn yearly, and the process does not hurt the animals at all.
Wool has a natural odour, which comes from lanolin. Lanolin is the clever wax that all sheep have on their coats, this keeps them waterproof. You will recognise the smell from a jumper or other woolly things in your home. This natural smell is completely normal and will pass with time and airing, we are rather partial to the smell here, and felt disappointed when it faded during our trials.
Our customer service team have taken all their woolly bedding exams and passed with flying colours. We are always happy to talk and help you to decide, so just give us a call and we can talk about this bedding until the sheep come home.
Our Baa Baa Bedtime Finest Organic Bedding is all made to order especially for you. We will get our skates on as soon as your order arrives with us and deliver your duvet to your door in around two weeks.
Exciting Recycling...
Plastic is a problem. There is not enough space here to write down all the reasons that we need to use less plastic, but one thing we can do, which we think is pretty cool, is make duvets from bottles that have been fished (literally) out of the oceans. If we don’t act now, sadly, there will be more plastic than fishes in our precious seas by 2050. Plastics, as we know, cause injury, distress, pollution and a big problem for wildlife and humans alike.
Thanks to some very clever caring people, with a big vision and an enormous net, we have been able to source a filling that is made directly from plastic that has been discarded into the sea.
The plastic is collected by Plastic Bank (Social Plastic®), cleaned and recycled, before being used to manufacture bedding filling fibres in Germany. This soft, very fluffy and durable filling is called AERELLE® Blue and has all the quality and comfort benefits that you would expect from a polyester filled duvet and pillow, but with the added benefit of also qualifying for the EU Ecolabel.
All of our Bottle Bedding products produced using AERELLE® Blue will carry an individually numbered label to ensure full traceability and transparency, and if that doesn’t make you sleep like a baby turtle, the process is also certified by the Global Recycling Standard.
Downright Delightful...
Down has always been at the top of our “very comfy fillings to make very cosy duvets” list. Also at the top of our list is the need to look for and find alternatives for our bedding fillings that are more sustainable and support the circular economy (using resources more than once) so you can imagine our delight when we came across this 100% recycled down filling. Made with a filling that is trademarked and called NEOKDUN®, this duvet not only feels like the finest, lightweight down duvet, but when you turn out the lights, you can rest with a clear conscience knowing that your duvet is certified with the NVP Traceability Standard and the filling has been audited to guarantee ethical sourcing.
This incredible 100% biodegradable filling is made from a mixture of down species, taken from garments and bedding that have reached the end of their life.
The filling is manually taken, collected, washed and regenerated by very clever people with clever machines, in Europe. This innovative process does not use any environmentally harmful products, and in turn creates a warm, breathable, light, clean and super luxurious filling.
The fill power of this duvet is 700, which makes for a very light duvet. We are skipping off to an early night with a big smile on our faces knowing that this Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified duvet is very special indeed.
